Why Does Dr. Belo Recommend Adding Vitamin C to Your Skincare Routine?
It’s not just for boosting your immune system!
Here in the Philippines, we know of Vitamin C as a fantastic immune booster. And it’s true: countless studies have proven that Vitamin C plays a role in the support of immune responses, repair of connective tissue, production of antibodies, and so much more. That’s why, in the time of COVID-19, you’d be hard-pressed to find a fully-stocked shelf of Vitamin C. But did you know that this supervitamin brings amazing benefits for your skin, too? In fact, it’s one of my most highly-recommended ingredients. Read on to find out why you need a Vitamin C product in your skincare routine.

In a previous article over at the Belo website, we discussed why I don’t approve of using moisturizer. (I suggest you read that article first before moving on to this one.) Instead of slathering ‘fake moisture’ onto the skin, I recommend that you exfoliate instead to reveal your baby-soft skin underneath.
As people get older, their tendency to develop dark spots increases. That’s why I use a Vitamin C serum every morning. The reason I love Vitamin C so much is because it’s an antioxidant. I use an exfoliating cleanser first, because it ensures that the penetration of Vitamin C will be effective. Vitamin C also stops the free radicals you get from UV exposure. Of course, on top of all of that, you shouldn’t forget your sunblock.
My favorite Vitamin C serum, ZO® 10% Vitamin C Self-Activating, has a host of skin-brightening benefits.

skin. 10% Vitamin C works to counteract free radical damage for brighter and more radiant skin.
It helps remove surface discoloration
This serum contains 10% ascorbic acid to exfoliate skin surface pigmentation, which is perfect if you want brighter skin and a more even complexion. Vitamin C isn’t a chemical exfoliant like hydroxy acids are, but it’s great for fading unwanted spots and smoothing the skin’s surface.
It minimizes redness
Vitamin C is anti-inflammatory, and studies show that it’s been able to treat a lot of inflammatory skin conditions. Using this serum will help reduce unwanted redness.
It provides amazing antioxidant protection
Vitamin C is full of antioxidants that help fight free radicals. But because ZO® 10% Vitamin C Self-Activating contains tocopheryl acetate & coenzyme-Q10, you get even more sun damage protection. But this doesn’t mean you can skip out on sunscreen, okay?
It helps accelerate cell turnover
If younger-looking skin is the goal, you need to lean on Vitamin C. Studies show that it plays a role in quicker cell turnover. By using Vitamin C, your skin will be able to get rid of dead skin cells more efficiently than usual.
