We all have been fighting silent battles that we would desperately want to leave behind.
Sometimes, it takes all our courage and strength to move forward and fully let go of the things that are holding us back to be able to start fresh and stand strong once again.
Jessy Mendiola and Luis Manzano’s proposal story may not have the usual romantic setting, but what triumphed them was the way that they have embraced it as their own and chose to see it as something remarkable.
The couple shared their one-off proposal story in a vlog, where they narrated how Luis originally planned his proposal from Jessy, the challenges that happened in between, and how they were able to turn every roadblock into something worthwhile.
Their relationship started from a friendship so beautiful that it led to a deeper understanding of each other, which eventually made them fall greatly in love with one another.
The two were undeniably happy to have each other, as we have always seen, but there are times that even the truest kind of love can be put to the test and crash.
He had it all planned out; Luis has had a ring for Jessy since September 2019. He was going to invite all of their closest family and friends to dine privately in a restaurant, and there, he would pop the question. Unfortunately, while he was waiting for the perfect timing to propose, they have made a heartbreaking decision to go their separate ways.
To Jessy, she firmly believed that this was truly the end of their relationship. She was already in the process of moving forward and letting go of the things that were not meant for her.
Luis on the other hand was very positive that they will ultimately work things out and will still end up in each other’s arms.
Nevertheless, a teary-eyed Jessy closed off her latest vlog with the words “I’m engaged”.
What was supposed to be a happy announcement of this much-awaited engagement turned out to be an emotional one, and here’s why:
In the middle of the said break, while both of them were trying to figure out their next steps, a friend of Jessy who has been keeping the ring for Luis, told her about the ring and Luis’ initial plans of proposing before they broke up. Her friend also got the opportunity to show her the actual ring and even had the chance to have her try it on.
Jessy got dismayed. Seeing the ring made her feel overwhelmed. It got her to ask more questions, more regrets, and more what-ifs came to her mind. More significantly, She also felt that what was supposed to be a potential milestone in her life was taken away from her.
Fast forward to a few more months, the couple settled their differences and realized that what they really want more than anything was to be with each other. They decided to take everything that happened as a lesson on how to love each other better. Now, their bond was renewed and ready to take on new blows, but this time though, they will be more stable and concrete.
Life has always been about choices. How we look at each and everything that is transpiring within our lives will most especially affect every event that will follow.
Jessy, being the caring woman that she is, had the wonderful idea that instead of having Luis get a new ring as the old ring reminded her of the sad thing in the past, they just decided to have the ring reset and have a new look. While Jessy also co-designed the first ring, she was also the one who suggested how it will be reset according to her liking.
True enough, the ring has a whole new meaning now. It is not just a symbol of Luis’ commitment to Jessy. It also serves as a reminder of things that they overcame and will conquer eventually as a couple.
Jessy and Luis were able to turn even the sourest of memories into the most noteworthy moments of their lives. No matter how bad, they were able to tweak each and every aspect of what has occurred in the past to be something of better value. It might not always be easy, but choosing to look for the silver lining and focusing on that has always been the best option.
My key takeaway to everything that transpired is that regardless of the good, the bad & the crazy in-betweens, what is for you would not miss you. The crazy in-betweens is where you would actually realize what you can do without & what your heart really burns for.
2020 has not been an easy year for most of us, but let us all welcome the New Year with the eagerness to open this chapter with positivity and the enthusiasm that better days are ahead.
