Bringing together the beauty of the sea with the lushness of nature and the warmth of summer, Paul Syjuco and Jul B. Dizon create jewelry unlike any other.
It’s really quite hard to believe that we are four months down in 2021. And yet, here we are. The height of summer is upon us and the heat is not making us forget it.
Since everyone is accustomed to working from home due to the pandemic, every day is now “casual Friday.” Our usual go-to outfit might be a light summer dress or a sleeveless shirt and shorts, but the bathing suit industry is still beckoning to us with a cute bikini or two.
And since we equate summer to fun under the sun, some of us are planning or already heading to our favorite local beach destinations. That is if the protocols on quarantining permit.
But if you are lucky, there’s always your backyard pool right at home.
Though the sales of formal jewelry and gowns have taken a back seat, for now, this doesn’t necessarily mean that your #OOTD should be boring. With a strong sense of patriotism for our country, a lot of shops offer locally-made pieces. These are sure to make your heart skip a beat, keep your closets happily plump, and help the local fashion industry at the same time.
And with that, AUM of Paul Syjuco and Jul B. Dizon Jewellery show us how to spruce up your pool or beach look for the summer with handmade pieces that can also be worn on formal occasions.
“The outlook of how to wear your jewelry has changed dramatically since COVID fell upon the world. Though there are still a few clients who buy big diamonds, [they buy it] because of investment more than anything,” Lucille Dizon says. “Our customers are now looking more into everyday wear. A statement necklace to match their white t-shirt and jeans. A pair of colored earrings and rings that they feel comfortable enough to wear to the grocery.”
Look Good and Feel Good
Thus, the fashion forecast for jewelry this year is to wear what makes you happy. No matter what occasion or season, wearing what makes you feel good will in turn, make you look good.
But what makes this a summer collection? Paul Syjuco answers: “This summer collection is inspired by the energy of water. There is lightness and healing when we are near the ocean. [That’s] because of the sunlight on our faces, the sound of waves, the salty mist, and the sand in between our toes.”
“[Thus], we feel recharged and our minds unwind. We try to capture this concept by the use of organic flowing lines and the richness of colors of golds, greens, and vintage coral.”
Breaking the Rules
In the ’80s, if you’re wearing yellow gold earrings, everything else you wear must be in yellow gold, too. But nowadays, we have learned to break that rule. That’s because the mix of colors makes more of a statement. And this is especially true because certain stones look better when set in yellow, white, or even rose gold.
The Art of Layering
A whole new way to level up your ear game is through multiple ear piercings. And yes, this style’s just as sizzling hot as the temperature lately! There are many ways to dress up your ear—from studs to dangling earrings, loops, huggies, and even ear crawlers. And we are loving the variety for sure!
Layering is here to stay. Wearing multiple necklaces and bracelets at the same time is another trend that won’t leave the scene anytime just yet.
For some, the more the merrier. Gone were the days when all your precious jewelry is left at the bank safe. This pandemic has taught us to enjoy all our hard-earned treasures, so the art of stacking your pieces together artfully? It’s very much the next in-thing.
A trained gemologist-designer from the Gemological Institute of America, Paul Syjuco is a third-generation fine jeweler. Thus, he works with select materials—crafting pieces that show his respect for the beauty of natural gems and noble metals.
Paul creates pieces that are simple yet precise, sculptural yet fluid. His work reflects the deep heritage and timelessness of fine jewelry, as well as more adventurous contemporary influences drawn from his interest in music, architecture, and the arts.
Additionally, Paul’s years of experience in the industry have given him a certain fearlessness—one that inspires him to continue pushing boundaries and expressing more modern concepts. His personal work has been included in contemporary jewelry exhibitions abroad. Currently, Paul resides in Manila.
