As 2021 comes to a close, most people are starting to write their New Year’s resolutions. Losing weight, eating healthier, exercising, and prioritizing self-care are all great wellness goals. The challenge, however, is sticking to said resolutions. That’s why people set the same goal every single year.

There is no doubt that creating change is a challenge, and goals do not happen overnight. Without a change in mindset, lifestyle, and long-term sustainable commitment, it would be difficult to break this cycle.

Remember—slow progress is better than a fast one with short-term results. If you want to increase your chances of succeeding with your health goals, set realistic goals and take concrete steps rather than doing everything cold-turkey to attain it. Focus first on the simple things that work best for you and build a foundation on proper knowledge about food and nutrition.

Start Making Some Simple Swaps in Your Kitchen

A healthy kitchen makeover is one of the best ways to start your journey to a healthy lifestyle. Switch to healthier pantry staples to ensure that you can make a nutritious yet flavorful meal every day. Start with the oil that you use, then change the condiment you use the most. These simple swaps can build up to a huge difference. 

Stay Hydrated

Drinking adequate water keeps your system clean and flushes out all the toxins from your body. While tough, this means nixing sugary drinks and learning to love water. This also includes sugary, artificially-flavored drinks that claim to help you lose weight or claim to help curb your cravings. Stick to water—your body will definitely thank you for it.  

Start Reading Labels

It’s about time you pay attention to the nutrition information and ingredients of a certain food product so that you make smart and healthier choices. Focus on the little details and beware of unhealthy ingredients and false claims. Steering clear of anything artificial (colors, flavors, sugars) is a good start. 

Get Your Body Moving

Daily exercise is an essential part of sustaining a healthy lifestyle. This doesn’t mean you have to deadlift 100 lbs on the first try. Start small with activities like leisure walking and some light stretching. Likewise, you can start with 15 minutes a day, then gradually increase the duration from 30 minutes to 1 hour per day at your own pace.
