Sometimes, Big Things Come In Small Packaging

Forget lugging around bottles of foundation, jars of cream, and a huge palette of eyeshadow wherever you go. In some cases, smaller is better.

I’ll just go ahead and say it. I used to dislike mini and travel-sized makeup products—”used” being the operative word. You see, I’ve always thought that full-sized makeup products were the real deal. If I’m going to buy makeup, then I might as well go for the option with the most product available.

Ah, the foolishness of youth. If I could go back in time and slap myself on the wrist, I would. Now that I know better, I feel like it’s my duty to tell my younger self (and you, too!) about the advantages of mini and travel-sized makeup—small packaging, so to speak.

Here are 5 reasons why sometimes, big things come in small packaging:

1. They are a practical way to try and test a product.

I’m thankful that some brands offer mini and travel-sized versions of their cult classic products. That way, we get to try and test the product without having the commitment of paying full price right away.

Let’s say you’ve been dying to try the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer. You’ve heard so many good things about it. However, you’re not sure if you’re going to love the formula. Small packaging is the perfect way to go!

2. They make you feel less guilty.

When was the last time you finished an entire makeup product? If you’re a makeup addict like me, chances are that you don’t usually finish the products you buy. You may not feel guilty about it now, but the time will come when you have to throw them away because they’ve gone bad. Trust me, it’s not a good feeling.

Going for a mini version will make you feel less guilty about buying more makeup. For example, the NARS Mini Blush in Orgasm can last for so long because a little goes a long way. On the other hand, the NARS Mini Climax Extreme Mascara will last for 3 to 6 months—just like any other mascara—even in its small packaging.

3. They take up less space.

Before the pandemic, I would always bring my mini and travel-sized makeup products to work or when I had to travel. I carry a lot in my work bag, so it’s nice to know that I can still do a full face of makeup—even if I bring a small makeup bag with me.

Now that I’m just at home, I find myself using them still. Why? It sometimes makes me feel that I’m on a vacation. Since I’m used to taking mini and travel-sized makeup products with me out of the house, using them takes me back to those days. Also, since they take up less space, they’re a lot easier to organize.

4. They make the perfect gift.

Whether you’re giving them as gifts to one person or a group of people, mini and travel-sized makeup products are a good way to go—especially when they’re sold in sets. Giving them to one person allows the person to have options. On the other hand, dividing them among a group of people allows you to personalize your gift based on the shade or function.

By the way, the latter works best as a stocking stuffer. It’s never too early to plan for the holidays!

5. They are a good introduction to the brand.

Still on the subject of sets, some makeup brands offer bundles of their cult classic products to introduce people to their brand. Whether you use all products yourself or give one or two to your friends, going with a set is a good way to try multiple products—usually for the price of one full-sized product.

Case in point—NARS is currently offering a Cult Classics Discovery Set, which has six mini or travel-sized products (including the Orgasm blush and Laguna bronzer).

If only I knew these things back then. Oh well, the best thing to do now is to really just pass this on and hope that it helps someone. Remember, with mini and travel-sized makeup products, you get the same product for a lesser price. Talk about getting a bang for your buck… er, Peso!

Speaking of passing it on and helping someone, for the month of May, you can get 15% off your first purchase on NARS Beauty Butler when you use my code NARSFIRAS. You’re welcome!
