The wait is over, the time is now. Korean boy group BTS debuted their newest song and it is such a bop!

“I wanna dance

The music’s got me going

Ain’t nothing that can stop how we move, yeah

Let’s break our plans

And live just like we’re golden

And roll in like we’re dancing fools”

– “Permission to Dance” by BTS

Korean boy group BTS just debuted their newest song “Permission to Dance” and it already hit over 20 million views in a span of 3 hours!

According to a report by NME.com, “Permission to Dance” is a dance-pop song that was made to “make hearts beat to the rhythm of BTS’s positive energy.” Co-written by singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran and Jenna Andrews, this song marks the group’s third non-Korean main release in 2021, following “Film Out” and the highly popular “Butter.”

It’s worthy to note as well that the release date of “Permission to Dance” is set on July 9, 2021, for a reason. It is, after all, ARMY Day and the 8th anniversary of the group’s fanbase.

Teasers and Surprises

Prior to the song’s release, the title was accidentally released by Universal Music Japan on June 15, 2021, but was quickly deleted. Ed Sheeran even leaked details on both the song title and his involvement in the group’s upcoming song during his Instagram Q&A portion. However, he officially confirmed it during an interview with the radio show Most Requested Live on June 27, 2021.

Additionally, the official teaser of “Permission to Dance” received over 16 million views and 3 million likes on YouTube following its first 24 hours of release.

“Permission to Dance” For A Hopeful Post-Pandemic

The teaser starts off with a 32-second video of the members channeling the iconic American cowboy look. From the looks of it, ARMY and fans will be treated to an energetic, fun, and positive song.

And true enough! With the release of the actual song “Permission to Dance”, the music video imagines life after the COVID-19 pandemic. In the video, BTS members RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook were dressed as cowboys, singing in a desert location, while announcing the end of the pandemic with purple balloons—a color associated with BTS and their ARMY.

But eagle-eyed fans have noticed more than just the vibrant energy exuded by the group. From inclusivity to embracing diversity, the song is more than a happy tune—it too is a message of hope.

Here’s what some ARMYs have to say about “Permission to Dance”:

International Collaborations

BTS is no stranger to collaborating with international artists and songwriters. In fact, they’ve previously teamed up with Ed Sheeran on the song “Make it Right” from their 2019 album Map of the Soul: Persona, as well as with Jenna Andrews, who worked with them on “Dynamite” (from the album Be), “Savage Love (Remix),” and “Butter.”

The septet has also worked with famous singers on several songs, such as Sia for “On,” Nicki Minaj for “Idol,” and Steve Aoki for their first all-English song “Waste It On Me”—just to name a few. Additionally, The Chainsmokers lent their modern and upbeat style in the song “Best of Me.”

But that’s not all. Following their international success, BTS has made appearances in US shows, like The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. In fact, the group will be performing “Permission to Dance” for the first time on July 13, 2021, in a two-day takeover. Plus, they’ll also be performing a special edition of “Butter” on July 14, 2021, according to a report from Billboard.

After rolling in successful songs, one after the other, we can only expect big things from BTS. Fighting!
