You Can Now Enjoy An Island Getaway In El Nido… All To Yourselves

Amid quarantine protocols, Charisse Tinio shares how you can safely enjoy a relaxing vacation in the sunny beaches of Palawan.

This July, my family and I had the most relaxing vacation in Pangulasian, El Nido, Palawan. We got El Nido Resort’s travel bubble package, so we enjoyed the whole island to ourselves—with just 20 other friends, that is. Overall, I could firmly say that getting this package is truly worth every penny. That’s because it guarantees us, travelers, a sense of convenience and safety, especially since we had our young children in tow.

Welcomed with Hospitality and Warmth

The trip started with a 45-minute plane ride from Manila via Airswift Airlines. When we arrived at the El Nido airport, we were transported to our boats via fully airconditioned vans. The boat ride to Pangulasian was a smooth and relaxing ride that was 30 to 40 minutes long. And all throughout the trip, we were treated to the most scenic view.

Soon after, we were warmly welcomed into the resort by such a great, hospitable, and kind El Nido team. Our package was a full board and lodging trip, which meant that all our meals, activities, boat tours, airport transfers were included. Thus, a buffet lunch that included the freshest seafood was waiting for us upon our arrival. The food that the resort served was all fresh and exceptional, a mix of international and Filipino cuisine—cooked perfectly by their talented team of chefs.

The Beach Villa

Shortly after our lunch, it was time to see our beach villa. Our room was a beach-front villa with a nice porch, where we could lounge, eat breakfast, and enjoy the sunset. Plus, we got a spacious bedroom and bathroom. To say that it was a very relaxing villa is such an understatement. It had all the wonderful elements that would make its guests want to live here forever.

A few feet from our villa was the big resort pool. We spent our first sunset in the pool enjoying the ambiance, the drinks, most importantly the company of good friends. Our kids had such a great time, too! It was a memorable first evening in Pangulasian, indeed.

Exploring and Island Hopping

The next two days were spent mostly on touring, exploring, and island hopping. Our days started early so we could make most of our trip. We were able to visit the Secret lagoon, Hidden Lagoon, Big Lagoon, the hidden beach, and the secret beach. And they were all amazing!

I’ve always known that El Nido was beautiful, but seeing it with my own eyes for the first time left me totally amazed and thrilled. Several times during the trip, I thought to myself: how could I have waited this long to visit this awesome and beautiful place?

The sights were phenomenal, but the experiences were much, much more memorable. It definitely exceeded our expectations! Being able to actually swim in a lagoon, see baby sharks (not the cartoon ones, hahaha), kayak with my husband and kids while trying to explore the lagoon, having a lunch feast on a remote island with exceptional service from the resort crew, and swimming in the middle of the ocean amidst beautiful rock formations… it was indeed a trip that’s hard to beat!

Leaving on a Fond Note

And so on our fourth day, as we bid the island a sweet goodbye, I couldn’t help but thank the God Almighty for the wonderful gift He has blessed us with—this country we call our own. His beautiful creation for us to freely enjoy.

This trip allowed me and my husband to reminisce about the many international countries we visited in the past and how we’ve taken for granted the places in our very own country. Then, all of a sudden, the COVID-19 pandemic happened and international travels have all completely stopped.

Indeed, the pandemic has truly taught us how to pause and enjoy what’s here within our reach. Our country has always had many places to offer, but the pandemic had made us see this reality more clearly now. And so we vow, that we will never take for granted local travel, ever again. That even when the world opens up again for travelers like us, visiting a new place within the Philippines would always be our top priority.
