Crafting my style, curating a brand, creating AKIN

Starting 2021 with a positive manifestation, I’m setting new goals facing this year full of hope and stepping outside of my comfort zone. This year, I’m focusing on building my own brand.

As I take a step forward, I want to take you alongside my journey in crafting this experience—and so AKIN was born. AKIN is a curated collaboration collective, a platform built to create a meaningful line of special works of art in the areas of home, lifestyle, and fashion. It is an avenue that will bridge different kinds of creatives. It is more than just about me, it’s about having a connection and building that conversation.

Sipping my wine, wandering thoughts, and fulfilling my boss babe wardrobe, I have finally overcome the fear of the unknown in this industry, taking this as a major milestone of growth. In this brand new season, I seek to make my dreams flourish by cultivating my creativity with AKIN. Here’s a rundown of my take on building the AKIN brand:

1. Creativity on Identity (Brand Name)

This will make or break your brand. Choosing a name can range from the simplest of words to the most complex. It can be a play on words or even a phrase, but most importantly, it’s something that should represent you. AKIN came from the simple thought of my lifestyle; the things that I love, that I have in my home, everything that encompasses my style and personality. I want people to look into my brand and find something that connects to them, in a way that they see a piece of their lifestyle as well.

Hearing the word AKIN instantly gives you a feeling of connection, something personal and certainly one of a kind. I want that feeling for everyone who enters my store. The end result is always to inspire others to live with what brings them satisfaction and curating a style in their life that is sustainable and valuable.

2. The Advocacy

I wanted to start a conversation between artists and consumers. The success of a brand also relies on its consumers, it’s not just about buying pieces and products but it’s about how the consumers are able to relate to these artists and their craft.

AKIN is a curated collab collective that features both local and international artists and designers, to showcase them on a greater platform along with their cutting-edge pieces. Each piece is tailored for Home, Lifestyle and Fashion, fields where I have learned the art of sustainability and a new definition of luxury where it isn’t measured on the price tag or the size but the quality, effort and elegance in ways it was crafted.

3. Elevating the Style

There will always be a new fashion trend just waiting to be discovered. But some say fashion is ever-revolving. In a sense, it is true, but there’s a slight difference. Fashion trends back in the day are finding their way back on stores and runways but with a modern twist. AKIN strives to present unique but classic products and pieces. With the diversity of pieces that my brand has to offer, a connection is bound to happen that can elevate one’s style. I live and breathe art and every collection from AKIN that embodies creativity; all pieces reflect both authenticity and timeless style.

4. Curated Lifestyle

I believe that every person’s way of life is influenced by their thoughts, values, and experiences—and with my knowledge in both fashion and interior design, I wanted every product to be created with utmost care and intentionality. All of my products have been meticulously handpicked by me, infusing my personal touch and personality in it. For AKIN, I wanted people to take a glimpse of my lifestyle; which embodies a style that is influenced by my values, personality, and experiences.

Defining one’s style is like art: it’s a process involving techniques, patterns, and even experiences to shape one’s taste in fashion and style. It’s also how you carry yourself, how you present yourself to others, and how you style your home. AKIN wants to elevate that idea through inspiration, archives, conscious line, and collaboration.

5. The Adventure

Empowering women to be more confident and inspiring them to move, guiding and motivating them to live a sustainable yet adventurous lifestyle. This will be a creative space for women, idea curators, thriving entrepreneurs, and people who are dreaming of being part of a creative community. Just like my column name, memoirs of the overdressed, I do believe that abundance is both creative and brave. Never be afraid to let everyone see your unmatched levels of style with no limitations in bringing your confidence in living your life. Finally, take ideas from culture, lifestyle, and experiences – all to influence women to live their best.

Creating AKIN, I focused on three things: to CREATE, CURATE, and CULTIVATE a new definition of modern lifestyle. Through collaborating and being open to inspiring and thriving artists and designers is certainly something that can transform your perspective from the inside out, being more intentional and thoughtful.

These principles are what made AKIN. 2021 gives us a clean slate, a chance to have a new perspective, the perfect time to start something new, something fresh, something AKIN…

Looking forward to creating a new world of style, life, home, and fashion. AKIN was born out of the purpose of showcasing pieces of my life that evolved featuring what an empowered woman looks like—someone who values the importance of lifting each other up, finding comfort in pieces that connect with you, and coming together to create a lifestyle that is rooted in inspiration.
