Tale of Two Countries: A Beautiful Persian-Filipino Wedding to Remember
Bringing together Persian and Filipino elements to commemorate a special moment in their lives, the wedding of Misagh and Riza is truly one for the books.
Aroosi—the Persian word for “wedding”—is a celebration that’s undoubtedly an important event for both Persian and Filipino families. This is why, for Misagh Bahadoran and Riza Siccion, it was a must to make their wedding both traditional and meaningful.
Filipino-Iranian football player Misagh proposed to Riza last 2021 at Palazzo Verde in Las Pinas. And last May 17, 2021, the couple finally tied the knot at Santuario de San Jose Parish.

Wedding Details
Misagh and Riza held their wedding reception at Okada Manila. The place was transformed into a fairytale-like castle by Gideon Hermosa Event Styling—with crystal chandeliers and white flowers hanging from the ceiling, tall, Victorian-style white window frames, golden arches as backdrops, and white flowers stylishly scattered everywhere. The floor was also covered in a lush green carpet from Rent Unlimited PH.

The blushing bride wore a beautiful ball gown by Mak Tumang. It had a sweetheart neckline with off-shoulder tulle sleeves and a low back, along with delicate flower appliques, and crystals. The white gown made a beautiful contrast against the bridesmaid’s dresses, which came in bright pink colors. The bride also wore shoes adorned with dainty white flowers—made by Shoepatos.
On the other hand, the groom wore a navy-blue suit from Francis Libiran.

Persian Wedding Traditions
After the couple’s beautiful entrance at the reception, we caught a glimpse of some elements of a Persian wedding in the short ceremony that started with the couple sitting in front of the sofreh aghd, which literally means “spread ceremony”. It is an elaborate wedding spread that includes a variety of elements that symbolizes love, health, and good fortune for the couple.
Some of these elements the couple chose to include in their sofreh are the mirror that symbolizes eternity and two candles that symbolizes light.

Honey was also included in the couple’s sofreh. It signifies sweetness for the couple. After the couple is officially married, the groom is supposed to hold a bowl of honey, which they dip their pinky fingers in it. They then feed it to each other, symbolizing how the couple will only feed each other sweetness from this point on—in their lives together.
Another one is the sugar rubbing ritual, wherein a veil was held like a canopy over the couple’s heads by female family members. As host JC Alelis put it, the canopy “symbolizes protection over the couple and blessings over their marriage.” The women in the families then took turns rubbing large hard sugar cones to spread sweetness over the couple’s life and marriage.

To end the short ceremony, the couple and some female family members performed the Raghseh Chagoo, or the cake knife dance. Similarly, Misagh and Riza needed to earn the knife to start the cake cutting.
Female family members gracefully danced with the knife in hand and the couple offered roses in exchange for it. The dancers acted coy and passed the knife to the next dancer until it was finally won over and the knife was given to the groom. The couple then proceeded to cut the intricately designed cake by Chef Castillo Fuentes.

Misagh and Riza’s Wedding Highlights
In her wedding vows, Riza said that when she saw Misagh during their wedding, she “felt secured, contented and loved.” Everyone present could definitely see and feel the overflowing love and respect that the couple radiated during this special moment in their lives.
Overall, the wedding of Misagh and Riza was truly a wonderful event—one that celebrated traditions meaningfully for the couple and their families, with NicePrint Photo capturing every gorgeous moment throughout the night.
Congratulations and best wishes, Misagh and Riza!
