Let’s talk about the outfits on Emily In Paris
By now, I’m sure that if you’ve seen the series or if you’re currently bingeing it, you have been taking notes on Emily Cooper’s outfits throughout the episodes. Well, it really does take a genius on how to make a consistent impact on screen. Of course, it’s Patricia Field, who also styled the iconic character of Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City, and Marilyn Fitoussi who were responsible for it.
Luckily, when we had our exclusive interview with newly engaged Lily Collins, who plays the lead and also is a producer of the show Emily in Paris, to reveal to us the lowdown on how her wardrobe on the show came about. It’s Patricia’s magic formula of giving a free hand of collaboration with her talent, “I did not expect to get to collaborate as much as I did because Patricia is a genius. But she was really encouraging of me in finding my voice through the fashion and having it be an extension of Emily’s personality. She would send me images and I would go back and forth with her and next thing I know they just appear with her at the fitting and I was blown away that she really wanted my opinions.”
For those who have yet to see the series, Emily is an ambitious twenty-something marketing executive from Chicago who unexpectedly lands her dream job in Paris when her company acquires a French luxury marketing company and is then tasked with revamping their social media strategy. Reflecting the killer wardrobe she needs to go with the show, Emily doesn’t shy away from hats, bold patterns, or high heels.

There are similarities in Carrie and Emily’s style because they’re both characters who are into fashion.
Sex and the City creator Darren Star is also responsible for the birth of Emily in Paris so it also adds up in having Field in the equation of the show’s production. The show already filmed the pilot episode before they got the services of Patricia and Darren and Lily immediately knew they needed her as they first thought that something was lacking prior to her being on board.
Her first day at Savoir, if you were wondering where she scored her Eiffel Tower shirt… It’s Alice + Olivia paired with a Re Done cropped top and Louboutin low boots.
Some of the shows most talked-about looks are thanks to Patricia’s collab with Alaïa, Chanel, Dior, Gaultier, Off White, Missoni and the list goes on… and you fashionphiles surely took notice. Especially that Alexandre Vauthier dress, Louboutin sandals, and vintage bag that she wore at the cocktail party overlooking the Eiffel Tower.
Field revealed that Emily’s black tulle skirt in Episode 102 is an homage to Carrie’s tulle skirt in the series finale of Sex and the City.

Emily also made an impact with her Opera Garnier LBD made by Christian Siriano, gloves by Agnelle, vintage fur and purse, Cosmoparis shoes, and head jewels by La Compagnie du Costume. According to Field, “The outfit Emily wears to the opera in Episode 106 is channeling Audrey in Funny Face. It all came together so naturally, and when I saw Lily in that costume I was like, “Audrey Hepburn is here.”

Lily hopes for a second season but she’s happy she got to score some of the most coveted pieces from the series, “I wanted to steal all of them but I managed to take a couple of pairs of shoes, a bag. I wanted to steal everything though.”
Emily in Paris in now streaming on Netflix.
