A Wonderful Surprise: Ara Mina Gets Proposed To
A Wonderful Surprise: Ara Mina Gets Proposed To

One lazy afternoon I got a call from an unknown number. It turned out to be Mr. Dave Almarinez on the phone. After he introduced himself, he went straight to the point and told me that he wanted to propose to Ara Mina the following week. I was so happy, even thrilled to hear this great news. Ara has been my client and friend for perhaps 7 to 8 years. I did the shoots for her birthdays, her maternity pictorial, her business openings, and even her only daughter’s special milestones.

I was beyond happy to be part of this happy occasion for my good friend and to actually meet in person for the first time, the man who stole her heart. So the team was quickly organized: with Christine Ong Te Events to coordinate the on-the-day plans, Gideon Hermosa to style the proposal spot, Lst Mobile Lights and Sounds to provide the lights and music, Rent Unlimited for the carpet, Kadense Band to provide the music, and East Ocean to provide the sumptuous meal for the intimate dinner after the proposal.

On the day of the proposal, Ara only knew that they were going to San Pedro City Hall to register as voters. Dave from the Comelec office told Ara they were going up to the session hall to give a courtesy call to some friends. From the session hall, it led the way to the terrace where the proposal was to take place. As soon as Dave and Ara entered the terrace, you will see how Ara was really really surprised and clueless with all that was happening. She was lead by Dave into the aisle and showed her the huge wooden sign that read “Will you marry me?” that was placed by the vacant lot in front of the City Hall. Then Dave went down on one knee to pop the question and gave the beautiful ring.

So many tears of joy all around. And moments later, the only daughter of Ara, Mandy, came in, and Dave gave her a promise bracelet from Pandora, which symbolizes that he promises to also take care of Mandy as they build their new life together.

Mandy was also a special part of Dave’s proposal.
We are all excited for these three as they start a new journey together as one family unit.

I had the privilege of asking some questions to the newly engaged couple. Here are some of the questions and their answers :

Char: Ara, what was the first thing that came to mind when you saw the sign, and when Dave popped the question?

Ara: The moment I saw it, my mind completely went blank. Hindi ko na ma-imagine ano reaction ko, as in feeling ko na lang I was floating in the air. All I can say is the feeling was unexplainable. Then I was thinking, nananaginip ba ko? Pero basta, naiyak na ako ng lumuhod siya and asked me. I got more emotional when I saw my daughter Mandy. Then Dave prepared something for her also. I really appreciate it. The best feeling ever in my life. It was an amazing feeling.

Char: Dave, how did you plan the proposal? What made you decide to do it on that day?

Dave: Supposed to be, my plan was December 2020, but di makuha ang timing until Ara said a week ago na ma-move her taping lock-in to January 14, 2021. I told her to please join me to register in San Pedro Laguna on January 12, 2021.

With a very tight timeline, I connected with Ara’s long-time friend Charisse of Nice Print Photo and the whole team made it look so easy and perfect, whereas I was nervous as this is the first time mag-propose ako and I really wanted it to be perfect. Perfect in the sense that the timing is right, the secret na hindi niya malaman what was going to happen. I also talked to her family, and Team Darve, as what we call it, to help me contact our other friends.

Char: So many people got inspired and happy with your proposal. What’s your love advice for those who are still waiting for “the one”?

Ara: I’m so glad maraming na-inspire. My advice: don’t rush things. Always pray and keep those good intentions in your heart. Keep the faith because your sincere prayers will be answered in God’s perfect time.

Dave: Yes so many, as in grabe, until now, I am overwhelmed with the thousands of well-wishers and so many beautiful greetings. My social media accounts even became so active and couldn’t respond to all the well-wishers.

Ang masasabi ko is: never give up, make sure that every day is like your first day courting your girlfriend. Courting should be continuous and not just in the beginning. You should always inspire each other, making that your motivation towards a very successful relationship. Don’t look for things that are not there, and be grateful for what you have, for no one is perfect, except for one true love. I never had any hesitation when I planned it because I know it’s real, sincere, and true.

Char: Do we expect wedding bells soon? And what’s your dream wedding theme?

Ara: Our wedding will be this year, 2021. I dream of having a beautiful garden wedding.

Wedding bells this year!
