In the past year, we were all given an opportunity to get to know ourselves more intimately. All those days spent within the comforts of our own homes urged us to reflect on our choices and decisions in life. It was the best time to understand ourselves better and become personal with the people and space around us.
For the year 2021, as we look forward to better days, I dare each and every one of you to live out your own personal stories through the pieces you choose to own and use. No one detail is too small to overlook.
One such detail that people often pay little attention to, is furniture. It’s ironic how we use furniture every single day, for most hours of our days (especially during quarantine), yet we stubbornly choose to undermine the importance of having quality furniture. I think it’s vital to invest in them for four good reasons: quality, health, aesthetic, and lifestyle.
Investing for the Long Term
Firstly, in a world greatly affected by climate change, we must always consider the quality and sustainability of the items we purchase. Many would think that getting a cheap chair will save them money, but the wear and tear will actually cost them in the long run. One of my go-to furniture showrooms is Casa Bella Home and Living, as they only carry established European designer furniture brands that have long perfected the fine craftsmanship of making furniture, and are very particular about all the materials used in making them, ensuring the longevity of each and every furniture piece.
KETTAL Molo. Arguably the best in outdoor furniture in the world, each Kettal piece is made from incredibly robust materials, is weather-proof, fire-proof, pet-friendly, and will surely stand the test of time. A personal favorite is the new Molo modular sofa designed by Rodolfo Dordoni. “Molo” (“pier” in English) is built to offer a place of reconnection and relaxation. In Dordoni’s words, Molo is “a rest between trips, and a refuge from the swell of the waves.”

Health. Investing in furniture is investing in one’s health. Having a bad chair, table, or bed may not have any noticeable effects on the body in the short term, but it may definitely give serious physical problems in the long run. Regularly using badly-designed furniture may develop permanent injuries to the hips, neck, wrists, and back, and may negatively affect the circulatory and nervous system. Spending money on European furniture pieces designed by the most influential designers that have shaped the very history of furniture will ensure proper support and comfort, and will help prevent a hefty bill of medical treatments in the future.
CASSINA Maralunga and CASSINA LC4. Indeed two of the most coveted designer pieces in the history of furniture design, the Maralunga and LC4 are both iconic pieces carried by leading Italian brand Cassina. The LC4 is the definitive chaise lounge, designed by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, and Charlotte Perriand to become the ultimate ergonomic relaxing chair. On the other hand, the Maralunga by Vico Magistretti is an innovative and historic piece that pioneered the synthesis of a low- and high-back sofa through the use of a bicycle chain. Magistretti’s genius has proven to be timeless, and his brainchild continues to be an international bestseller to date.

Aesthetic. A lot of people may not notice this, but a well-furnished room not only elevates the look of a space; it also uplifts the spirits and improves the mood of the people who live in it. At Casa Bella, their furniture selections span multiple design movements, and their colors, sizes, and finishes are all customizable to fit the look of any project. Matching your furniture with the look and vibe of your interiors, and accessorizing accordingly is the key to incorporating your personality into your own space whilst creating a pleasant atmosphere that becomes a pleasure to live in.
MOROSO Redondo and MOROSO Gogan. If you’re going for furniture pieces that make the best statements and impressions through bold colors, patterns, and forms, the avant-garde Italian designer brand Moroso is the best place to look. These remarkable designer pieces were designed by world-famous designer Patricia Urquiola. It’s always interesting to see how she translates inspirations such as Retro Car Interiors, smooth Japanese stones, and even icebergs into sculptural pieces of furniture.

Last but definitely not the least, good furniture pieces affect and shape the quality of the lifestyle being lived inside a home. They encourage family and friends to spend more time with each other. Comfortable sofas lure in siblings to play with each other in the living room, well-designed dining chairs prolong the bonding of family over food, and a heavenly bed allows you to rest better and dream bigger. Good designer furniture pieces are not only great conversation starters; they also help nourish bonds and sustain the relationships that are most important to us.

As we look forward to what the year 2021 will bring us, a shift in perspective is necessary to bring out bigger and better changes. Start paying attention to the little details that make life interesting, inside and outside your home. Understand why you feel the way you do; don’t just push your thoughts to the back of your head. Find that piece that you’ll truly love using day in and day out; do not compromise with what you have now. Seize the day and spend valuable time with your family and friends. Now.
Only when we choose to give meaning to each and every detail in our lives, can we really say that we’re living our lives to the fullest. Choose to live this 2021.
