Mask-proof lip products are the unexpected game-changer in this pandemic. And they’re made to last! Here are my top picks.
Whenever change becomes part of a conversation, the words constant, good, and coming are more often than not mentioned. “Change is the only constant in life,” said Heraclitus, a Greek philosopher. “Change is good,” said the voice inside our head. Finally, “change is coming,” said, well…you-know-who.
In the context of beauty, change is very much a common subject. Ironically, change is constant when we’re talking about makeup because yes, these trends change over time. It’s good because we have the freedom to change up our looks through makeup. And finally, because there’s always new makeup coming out, our preferences change every now and then.
However, there’s one change we never saw coming. And that’s the shift towards mask-proof lip products.

The Change We Never Saw Coming
Lip gloss was making its comeback when the COVID-19 pandemic happened. Since we all started wearing face masks, we had to put aside our favorite lip gloss because it isn’t really practical to wear underneath a face mask. Now, while some choose to skip wearing lip products altogether, others began looking for lip products that will stay put whenever wearing a face mask. Mask-proof lip products, so to speak.

Personally speaking, we shouldn’t really mind it if there’s minimal stain or transfer to our face masks. After all, we are dealing with pigments here so we do have to manage our expectations. But on the other hand, I do understand why some people are on the hunt for mask-proof lip products. Sometimes, it’s not about the transfer to the face mask, but rather the transfer towards the face because of bleeding and feathering.
4 Mask-proof Lip Products You Need To Have
Thankfully, there are some lip products that are formulated to be mask-proof. To help you with your search, here are 4 mask-proof lip products that you might want to consider:

1. NARS Powermatte Lip Pigment
Of course, an obvious choice is matte liquid lipstick. Out of all the brands I’ve tried, the NARS Powermatte Lip Pigment is my absolute favorite. The custom doe-foot applicator makes it so easy to apply. Plus, it’s pigmented, and the formula is so comfortable on the lips. Honestly, I wish NARS comes out with a lipstick version of this.
Price: P1,500
Favorite Shades: American Woman and Somebody To Love
Where to Buy: rustans.com and NARS Beauty Butler
2. Generation Happy Skin Kiss & Bloom Velvet Lip & Cheek Stain
Part of Happy Skin’s newest offering in its more affordable line—the Generation Happy Skin Kiss & Bloom Velvet Lip & Cheek Stain—has been developed to cater to those who are specifically looking for mask-proof lip products. I apply a thin layer, which is all you need because it’s really pigmented, and blend it in with my ring finger. Plus, it has a nice watermelon scent!
Price: P349
Favorite Shades: Star and Nerd
Where to Buy: Lazada and Shopee
3. EB Advance Power Paint Multi-use Color Cream
If you’re on a budget, then I recommend the EB Advance Power Paint Multi-use Color Cream. A little goes a long way with this product because it packs a punch in the pigment department. I prefer using it the most on my lips, where I use my ring finger to apply and blend it in. Plus, it has a powder-like finish on the lips but it isn’t drying whatsoever.
Price: P199
Favorite Shades: Scarlet and Chiffon
Where to Buy: Lazada and Shopee
4. Revlon ColorStay Liquid Lipstick Satin Ink
Don’t be fooled by the word satin in its product name. The Revlon ColorStay Liquid Lipstick Satin Ink is arguably the most mask-proof lip product I’ve tried so far. Whether blotted or applied full-on, this lip product will do its job. If you do apply it full-on though, give it a few minutes to set. It’s also really comfortable on the lips. And I’d also like to highlight the line’s shade range—12 rich colors that go from natural to bold.
Price: P575
Favorite Shades: Your Majesty and Holy Pumpkin
Where to Buy: Lazada and Shopee

In the documentary In Vogue: The Editor’s Eye, Anna Wintour said that fashion is a reflection of our times. Well, just like fashion, beauty mirrors what we’re going through. Because of this pandemic, how we see and do beauty has changed. Shifting towards mask-proof lip products is just one of several changes.
Hmm, I wonder what change will come next. Perhaps lip gloss again since we won’t be needing face masks anymore? I sure hope so.
