3 Lessons We Can Learn From One Mega Group, Inc. Founder Sari V. Yap
As we commemorate the birthday of our beloved founder, we look back at the invaluable lessons learned from her bright and shining example as a pioneer in Philippine publishing
Sari V. Yap, or SVY as revered by me and my colleagues in One Mega Group, Inc. will always be fondly remembered. Not only for her pioneering efforts in establishing a company that has produced successful titles that have lasted decades but also for her endearing nature and passion for excellence. As we all pay tribute to her during her special day, we remember the incredible lessons that have left indelible marks in our lives. Sari, after all, has mentored many of us, through her words, actions, and continues to do so through her loving memory.
1. To Live and Love Local
With the establishment of The New PH, MEGA Young Designers’ Competition, and yes, MEGA, Sari gave Filipino fashion enthusiasts the chance to actively participate in an industry she helped grow. Highlighting Filipino models and fashion designers, and creating a platform for Filipino writers to produce content from her Filipino-owned brand of publishing, Sari spearheaded various efforts to put the spotlight on local talent. How many designers, creatives, editors, and artists have graced the pages and covers of her titles? Sari shows that we Filipinos are world-class and deserve recognition, too.

2. To Pioneer and Persevere
At a time when a Filipino glossy fashion magazine was unheard of, Sari took a leap of faith and founded MEGA. And through its highs and lows, she was able to see it through, with the addition of new titles and even with the closing of some. Sari fought for the success of each brand and brought out the best in her team, ensuring that excellence is valued in the workplace. She nurtured new talent and shared her successes with every employee in the company. A trailblazer, whose vision we continue to follow up to this day, Sari encourages us with her example.

3. To Pursue Your Passions Wholeheartedly
From a glossy magazine to numerous titles, to going digital, to events and television, Sari pushed her team to their limits. And she trained each of us to discover our full potentials. From her example, we are taught that dreams do come true, and our voices can be heard. And when you remain relentless in pursuing your goals in life, success may not be far behind. Sari showed all of us that we can find our niche in the workplace, encouraging us to do well with whatever task assigned to us. Many of us owe our success to her words of wisdom and her belief in our talent. And for that, we wholeheartedly thank you, SVY, for giving us a place in a world you helped mold and grow.
